Abstract 2 nd Generation High Temperature Superconducting (2G HTS) tapes are replacing the conventional Low (LTS) wires in various felds of applied superconductivity, especially power transmission applications. Transients electrical grid can result loss superconductivity leading to thermal runaway. This phenomenon is known as quench. To avoid catastrophic consequences, timely detection quench imperative. However, HTS materials possess a low Normal Zone Propagation Velocity (NZPV) compared LTS during property combined with electromagnetic shielding makes voltage tap technique unreliable for cables.
